Standing in a garden designed by Piet Oudolf is a truly immersive experience – you are surrounded by breathtaking planting schemes that continue to evolve and move through the seasons, evoking emotion throughout the year. For each of his projects, Oudolf begins with extensive sketches and drawings, from which he develops detailed planting designs. Until now, these beautiful preliminary works have only been accessible to a select few. This is the first book to offer a glimpse into those sketches, drawings, and planting plans.
Through these design drawings and preliminary sketches, the book provides a clear insight into Oudolf’s creative process. It showcases both well-known and lesser-known projects, all of which reflect his vast knowledge of plants and his relentless drive to experiment and innovate. Featured are iconic works such as the High Line, the gardens at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset and Menorca, and the garden for the renowned restaurant Noma in Copenhagen – as well as never-before-published private gardens.
The book Piet Oudolf aan het werk includes an introduction by Cassian Schmidt and essays by Rosie Atkins, Jonny Bruce, James Corner, Noel Kingsbury and an interview with art historian Hans Ulrich Obrist.
